Her sole-authored work spans governmental, medical, and civic registers, each series built around a different kind of institution and what it does to the people who spend their lives inside it. Her prose is formal, unhurried, and precise in the tradition of Susanna Clarke and Jesmyn Ward, building dread through the slow recognition that the system has been doing something to the protagonist for longer than the story's present tense covers.
